Willa Hall

Willa (Hammonds) Hall departed this life on July 5, 2026, at Thomas Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 21, 1950, to the late Henry and Birdie (Conley) Hammonds.

Willa was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was the light of her life. She enjoyed family get-togethers, cooking, and ancestry. She was always doing things to help others; she had the biggest heart, always trying to help those in need and taking care of stray animals, as she couldn’t stand to see them suffer. You could always come to her house, whether it was just to talk or for a hot meal. She was always there, welcoming you with open arms and that contagious smile.

Willa was a retired school teacher. She taught at Holden Grade School for 30-plus years. She always took pride in her students and wanted them to thrive in life.

Willa was preceded in death by her mother and father; two sisters, Nettie Dowmond and Jessie McElvain; one brother, John Dee Hammonds; and also her late mother-in-law and father-in-law, Johnny and Garnet Hall.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bill Hall Sr.; one son, Billy Hall Jr. (Christy); grandson, Billy Hall III (Haley); God daughter, Alexis Rainwater; and four great-grandchildren, Grayson, Dawson, Whitley, and Edison. She also had one special grandson, Jessie Vance, whom she loved like her own. She is also survived by three sisters, Eliza Livingston, Rosa Bischoff, and Bonnie Kelly; two special nieces and caregivers, Pamela Vance and Toni Hall; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Willa will always be forever loved and missed terribly by all who loved her. Willa’s legacy will live on through her family and friends.

We, the family, would also like to thank Thomas Memorial’s ER staff and all of the 4th-floor doctors and nursing staff for being so kind to Willa and the family.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2026, at James Funeral Home with Pastor Layton Lockhart officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Chapmanville. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026, also at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Hall Jr., Billy Hall III, Johnny Hall, Jesse Vance, Aaron Marcum, Aaron Marcum Jr., Zack Marcum, and Jaxton Robertson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Grayson Hall, Dawson Murphy, Allen Kelly, and Mark Vance.
