Wilda Mae Scaggs Slazo, 91, of Holden, WV, went home to be with the Lord, September 13, 2024. Mae was born June 4, 1933, in Wayne County, WV to the late Ethel Dyer Napier and Jasper Dyer. She was preceded in death by husband Jack Slazo, and husband Newman Scaggs; siblings Eugene Dyer, Bobby Dyer, Louise Adkins, Bessie Martin, Gaynell Tyree, Judy Hackney, Joyce Ann Dyer Wilson, and grandson Joseph Mahone.
The first thing most folks remark upon about Mae is her incredible home cooking, which she took a lot of pride in. Just under the surface of the thousands of dinners she made for her family, friends, and church family was a demonstration of her generosity and attention to individual people. She would often go out of her way to make an extra dish just because it was someone's favorite or find other little ways to make sure she made someone feel special. Enjoying life's simple gifts, Mae tended her garden and houseplants, enjoyed music, and delighted in making babies and children happy. Her heart and mind were always with her loved ones, and she will forever be in ours.
Mae is survived by children Sherri (Don) Smith, Kenneth (Rose) Scaggs, and stepdaughter Cindy (Wayne) Clay. Grandchildren, Caitlin (Jason Nicholas) Smith, Victoria Scaggs and fiancé Ryan Ramirez, Britt (AJ) Comer, and Trace Clay; and two great grandsons Owen and Evan Comer. Brothers, Fred (Joyce) Dyer, and James (Patti) Napier; sisters, Donna (David) Pearson, and Ernestine (Junior) Gilkerson.
The family would like to thank cherished friend and neighbor, Joe Codispoti, for his devotion and friendship to Mae and Jack.
