Vonda Gartin

Vonda Lynn Ferrell Gartin passed away on May 4, 2022.  She was preceded in death by her husband Vaughan Gartin, her daughter Sabrina Savage, and her parents Audrey Gullett Ferrell and Dennie Ferrell.  Her story does not end here as her light will forever shine to serve as a beacon to all who knew her.  She was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, sister, friend who was loved, is missed and will always be cherished.

She was born on December 17, 1952 in Madison, West Virginia, the oldest child to the late Audrey and Dennie Ferrell.  She has two brothers, Lannie and Dennis Ferrell.  She has two sisters, Denise Newhouse and Connie Yeager. 

She graduated from Nordonia High School in Ohio and later became married to Vaughan Gartin.  She has four children, Eric Gartin (Angela), Misty Carrico (Robert), Sabrina Savage (Daniel), and Brittany Smith (Trevor).  She has seven beautiful grandchildren of whom she loved dearly, Alexandria Gartin, Cara Gartin, Brady Carrico, Jaidan Savage, Jacob Carrico, Elena Smith, and Lucy Smith.

She had many accomplishments during her lifetime.  She studied at Yeager Airport and obtained her Pilot License and enjoyed flying.  She was a skilled foster parent who had fostered over 800 children over the past 40 years.  She has stayed in contact and maintained a close relationship with most of her foster children.  She taught Girl Scouts and was Vice President over Madison Colts.  She was previously employed by Logan County EMT.  She enjoyed painting, beach trips, camping, and traveling the U.S.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2020 at the Fountain of Life Worship Center with Pastor Nick Frye officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Chapmanville. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of the service, Friday at the church.
