Virgil Adkins, 87 of Teays Valley formerly of Logan passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Hubbard Hospice House.
He was born February 17, 1928 in Coal Branch of Harts, WV, son of the late Mose and Kernie Carter Adkins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by stepmothers Lucinda Marcum Adkins and Ida Browning Adkins;daughter Donna Jean Adkins; stepdaughter Dara Bower; sisters Pansy Toler, Alice Marcum, Shirley Malcolm, Ersa Adkins, Nancy Adkins and Cora Adkins; brothers Raymond, Samuel, William and Henry; stepsister Audrey Bryant; and stepbrothers Clete, Luther, Vernon, Leonard and Nathan Marcum.
Virgil was a Christian and faithful member of the Central United Baptist Church for 57 years, where he served as a Trustee for many of those years. He was the owner of Minton Chevrolet which later became L&S Chevrolet. Virgil also sold real estate for Century 21, and was most recently employed with Mayo Manufacturing.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Donna Adkins, son Virgil J. (Mary Rose) Adkins Jr., daughter Joyce A. (Benny) Wells. Stepson David L. (Andrea) Bower. His grandchildren Janet (Mark) Vint, Joanna (BJ) Fulmer, and Steven (Beth) Adkins. Step grandchildren Melissa (Shawn) Deer, Brandon (Angi) Wells, David Bower Jr. and Tabitha Bower. Great grandchildren Sophie Fulmer, Lucas Vint and Sebastian Adkins. One brother Kelly Adkins and one stepsister Brooke Harless. Virgil is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Services will be held at Central United Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2015 with the Rev. Glen White, Jr. officiating, assisted by Rev. Randy Skeens. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. There will be family visitation at 11:00 a.m., and the family will receive guests from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service.
