Thomas Ray Vaness

Thomas Ray Vaness 93, of Mitchell Heights went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Logan Regional Medical Center. He was born March 17, 1923 at Eagle Rock, Virginia a son of the late W.P. (Bigun) and Elsie Marie Vaness. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Willa Adkins Vaness, brother Roger Lee Vaness, sister Alice May Vaness. His two best friends Howard McGinnis and Hobart Young. A very special pet, Shiloh, who he loved very much. He is survived by daughters Phyllis Oiler of North Mitchell Heights and Sherri Akers of Terra Alta, WV. Grandchildren Jamie Oiler of North Mitchell Heights, Tony Akers of St. Albans, Bryan Akers of Huntington and Desirea Akers of Holden. One great grandchild Desmond Akers. He is also survived by his present wife Lucetta Vaness and her children Lara Crockett and Pamela Blevins. He wished to thank very special friends Ed & Linda Thornhill, Johnny Ray & Gay Owsley, Billy Ray & Cathy Chafin, Tonya Aleshire, Dr. Rao and the staff of Logan Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday July 14, 2016 at the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Cliff and Denny Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday also at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Johnny Owsley Sr., Johnny Owsley Jr., Carlos Owsley, Keith Ebersol, Gary Roeher and Steve Propst.
