Sylvia Faye Burgess, 72, of Whites Addition, departed this life Sunday, July 3, 2016. She was born to the late Charlie and Doskie (Bryant) Varney on August 17,1943.
Sylvia was a homemaker and an active member of the Church of Christ of Chapmanville where she loved and was loved by so many. Family and friends were her passion and delight.
A face full of sunshine, a smile for one and all. Married for 49 years, Sylvia was predeceased by her loving husband James (Jim) Burgess and her precious grandson Colton James Burgess who she adored with every ounce of her being. She was also preceded in death by two brothers Charles (Anna) Varney Jr. and Cecil Ray Varney.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Mike (Tammy) Burgess, of Mesa, Arizona, and Diana (Rick) Ball of Mitchell Heights. She was also survived by one grandson, Logan Adkins, who was the light of her life and never failed to make her proud. With open arms she welcomed step-granddaughters, Madison Shamblin, of Mesa, Arizona, and Linzi Ball, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky who she dearly loved. Sylvia was the oldest of 4 beautiful sisters, Charlotte (Jack) Vance, of Manasas, Virginia, Donna Toler, of Justice Addition, and Connie Cohen, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Always holding a special place in her heart were her brother and sister-in law Robert and Jo Ann Burgess of Phoenix AZ. Many more are left to cherish her memories including special nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the James Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Johnny Steele and Danny Godby officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 also at the funeral home.
