Stephanie Gibbs Carter

September 21, 1974 — March 26, 2022

Stephanie Danielle Gibbs Carter, 47, of Verdunville, WV, departed this life Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Logan Regional Medical Center in Logan, WV.

She was born September 21, 1974, in Charleston, WV, the daughter of the late Daniel R. Gibbs and Sharon Ferrell Gibbs.  In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jonathan Carter; maternal grandparents, Dallas, and Nellie Ferrell; paternal grandparents, L. E. and Erma Gibbs; and beloved cousin David Alan Harkins.

A graduate of Logan High School, Stephanie also attended school in the Chapmanville District and was a cheerleader throughout her life.  An accomplished gymnast and cheerleader, she also played and enjoyed softball.  During her senior year, she was chosen to cheer at the Hula Bowl in Honalulu, Hawaii. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree in Counseling and attended Concord College.

Stephanie was a member of Justice Christian Church in Justice Addition.  She served for several years as a poll clerk at the Lane Grade School precinct in Chapmanville for state, local, and municipal elections. She was a devoted Marshall University fan and cherished her beloved Denver Broncos. She loved making handmade jewelry for herself and loved ones. A lifelong animal lover and advocate, she treated her pets as her “babies.” To anyone who knew her, Steph was known for her generous and loving heart, her smile, and for always being there for those who needed her. She had a deep love for the outdoors- especially her West Virginia hills and Florida beaches.

Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Sharon Gibbs; her brother, Matt Gibbs, both of West Logan; her daughter Kiela (Jeff) Lester of Scott Depot, WV; grandsons Leo and Noah Lester, also of Scott Depot, WV; her significant other of 17 years, James Morris of Verdunville, WV; sons Jakob (Marisa) Morris, Justin Morris, Jared Morris, and Gage Purvis, all of Wauseon, OH; her Aunt and Uncle Ruby and David Harkins of Falling Waters, WV; her Aunt and Uncle Kay and Bob Bradley of Hayes, VA; beloved cousins Alayna (Wayne)Allen of Middletown, MD; Karen (Ed)Moaz of Manassas, VA; her Great Aunt, Anna Runyon, of Logan; her Great Aunt Opal Enochs of Jacksonville, FL; her very special “Aunt” Cindy (Johnny) Armstrong of Holden, WV; lifelong best friend Jennifer (Steve Roberts) Ballard of Parkersburg, WV; best friend Brittany (Derrick) Harmon of Delbarton, WV; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Stephanie will especially be missed by her fur babies- Ben Puss the cat, and her three dogs Stewie, Rex, and “Little”, whom she equally adored.

A Celebration of Stephanie’s life will be held at Akers-James Funeral Home in West Logan, WV, on Saturday April 9, 2022. Visitation for friends and family will begin at 12 noon, and the memorial service will directly follow at 2 pm with Bill McDonald and Joe Ballard officiating.
