Sammy Harlan Podunavac, 69, of Stollings, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2015 at Logan Regional Medical Center. Born May 24, 1945 in Ethel, he was the son of the late Mike and Hurl Podunavac. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four sisters: Anna Lyons, Helen Wilburn, Gladys Podunavac, and Mary Podunavac; four brothers: Willie, Nick, Roy, and Don “Duck” Podunavac; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harley and Kathleen McClellan; three sisters-in-law: Betty, Reva, and Jane Podunavac; and four brothers-in-law: Charles Wilburn, John Armstrong, John Shriver, and Bill Crum. Sammy worked at Logan Regional Medical Center in the dietary department. He was retired from Pittston Coal Company. He loved to bowl and play with his grandchildren. He was a 1965 graduate of Logan High School and an honorary graduate in 1964. He was a faithful member of the McConnell Tabernacle. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 48 years, Joan McClellan Podunavac; son, Michael J. (Christa) Podunavac of Conover, NC; daughter: Angela (David) Meade of Holden; grandchildren: Hunter Meade, Dylan Podunavac, Cadence Podunavac, Reagan Meade, Robert Meade, Raven Meade, Shelby Adkins, Cassidy Kazee, and Sammi Kazee; one sister, Julia Armstrong of Logan; three brothers: Ray Podunavac and Steve (Bonnie) Podunavac, both of Henlawson and Louie (Joyce) Podunavac of Wurtland, KY; one brother-in-law, Jerry (Henrietta) McClellan of McConnell; three sisters-in-law: Delane (Bill) Suttle of Cincinnati, OH, Connie (Jerry) Brown of Cyclone, and Margaret Shriver of McConnell; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be conducted at 2 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the James Funeral Home Chapel in Logan with Keith McClung and John Godby officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill. Sammy will be carried to rest by his grandsons and nephews.
