Ruth Stinson

Janice “Ruth” Layne Stinson, 95 of Crooked Creek passed away peacefully on the morning of June13, 2024. 

Ruth was born on April 3, 1929 to parents Aubry and Junia Layne. She was the oldest sibling and later was joined by brother Bryan and sister Diana. 

She attended Logan High School and graduated in 1947. 

She married her sweetheart Claude William Stinson on June 16, 1947 and they were married 64 years before his passing. 

Ruth had three children whom she loved dearly and was a second mom to many of her children’s friends. 

She worked as a receptionist for Guyan Beauty Shop as her children grew older and later became postmaster at the Peach Creek Post Office. 

She was a faithful member of the Crooked Creek Church of Christ. Ruth provided many, many dishes of yummy food for many, many years for every occasion needed. She loved working in the kitchen for Vacation Bible School and feeding the kids. 

Ruth loved butterflies, humming birds and the color blue. She not only fed people at church but provided “sugar water” for the humming birds which she fed 35-40 every year. They will surely miss her. 

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Claude, parents Aubry and Junia Layne, sister Diana Brewster and brother Bryan Layne. 

She is survived by children Barry (Carol) Stinson of Huntington, Mark Stinson of Crooked Creek and Claudia (Jim) Dillistone of Pocatello, ID. She had ten grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Radha for his tender care of their mother over the years and also Logan Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care during her last days. 

Visitation will be on Tuesday June 18 from 6-9 p.m. at Akers-James Funeral Home and funeral services will be June 19 at 1:00 p.m. at Crooked Creek Church of Christ.
