Just as the warmth of summer fades into the stillness of autumn, so has Ruby (Adkins) Moore “The Jewel of West Logan”, embarked on a journey beyond our sight. Leaving behind a legacy as vibrant and enduring as the colors of the changing leaves on July 27, 2025 at 91 years.
Ruby’s mother, Ella Victoria (Queen) Adkins, was blessed with her arrival on St Patricks Day March 17, 1934 while her father Arvil Pembrook Adkins rejoiced with the coal camp community of Chauncey, WV.
Ruby’s life experiences growing up with 9 siblings, at the end of the depression in rural Appalachia, forged an iron pickaxe who obliterated obstacles and reached their hand out to help anyone that would grasp it. She met Howard Moore and joined forces October of 1954 in Logan, WV. They lived in 3 states across the east coast and assisted with transplanting family seeds all over America.
Together they had two children - Glen Howard Moore of California and Tammy Rae Moore-Browning of Murrells Inlet SC - as well as being an additional parental set to Mathew Patrick Adkins of Cincinnati, Ky. Amongst their 3 children they have 4 grandchildren and packs of fur babies who are planted across the states. Ruby is survived by 2 younger sisters and a slew of nieces and nephews that continue to multiply just like the kudzu in these rolling hills.
Ruby’s uncompromising integrity, and expectations of likeness from those she surrounded herself with, fueled her dedication to equality and equity in each pond her finger touched. Allowing her to be a trumpet and leader of change in your churches, communities, organizations, and businesses.
There will not be flower or donation deliveries as Ruby’s yard is decades full of greenery that many helped her cultivate but her best friend Jim Richards continued to clean, feed, and develop as Ruby was no longer able to maintain it. Many yards, and lives, have flourished from Ruby’s green thumb and it would please her greatly to continue sharing this garden. If anyone would like to take a cutting of any of the plants please come by to dig out & continue seeding the communities.
Tammy Rae, along with Glen and attending family, would like to invite you to celebrate her life on August 9, 2025 at Akers-James Funeral Home with visitation from 1-230 followed by a service. There will be no dinner to follow the gathering as Ruby will not be there to supervise and boss the orchestration. Tammy, as the new matriarch who is supported by family, politely requests you to observe their plea of no food, flower, or money donations. We look forward to celebrating this promotion with you.
