Roy Lee “Skillet” Evans, 86, of Mud Fork, West Virginia, peacefully passed away on June 19, 2025, at Boone Memorial Hospital. He was a dedicated and humble man, known for his strong work ethic and kind-hearted nature. Roy proudly spent his entire life in Mud Fork, Logan, West Virginia, demonstrating his deep connection and devotion to his hometown community. Roy found great joy in softball, working diligently on lawnmowers and small engines, and trading at flea markets and auctions—activities he loved and that kept him connected with his community. He worked as a fabricator (welder) and in the mining industry, demonstrating his commitment and skill.
He is reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife of 55 years, Joyce Ann Evans; his parents, Jeff and Mary Evans; siblings Jim Evans, Bob Evans, Kathleen Kinser, and Margaret Keener; and granddaughter, Erica Michelle Wilburn.
Roy is lovingly remembered and survived by his children, Roy Evans Jr. (with whom he made his home), Randy Evans of Mud Fork, and Debbie (Rick) Wilburn of Garrett’s Fork; grandchildren, Leigha Evans of Huntington, Brenton (Jennifer) Wilburn of Morgantown, Haley (Jeremiah) Bostic of Morgantown, and Alex Evans of Mud Fork; great-grandchildren Jonathan Jasper of Whitman, Jasmine Marie Evans of Huntington, and Micah James Bostic of Morgantown; and great-great-grandson Nolan Jasper.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 24, from 6 PM to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 25, at 11 AM, with Rev. Jeremiah Bostic officiating, at Akers James Funeral Home in Aracoma.
His memory will live on through the many lives he touched, as a cherished father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. Roy’s gentle spirit and humble ways will be dearly missed.
