Robert Marcum 86 of South Charleston went to be with Christ on Thursday May 1, 2008 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston. He was born November 19, 1921 in Logan County. He was the son of the late Tolbert and Jane Sammons Marcum. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by the Mother of His children: Ora Bowen Marcum, Daughter: Linda Lester and Son: William Yeager. Robert was a retired Coal Miner, a Constable of Island Creek and a Retired Chief of the Chapmanville Police Department working from 1977 to 1997 and he was also a member of the Marcum Quartet. Survivors include his wife: Loretta Jean Marcum of Bakersville, North Carolina, His Children: Joann Maynard of Logan, Brenda (Reather) Fields of St. Albans, Patricia (Douglas) Thompson of Frankfort, Ky., Robert (Shirley) Marcum of South Charleston, Gloria (William) Butcher of Holden, Carolyn Lester of St. Albans, Tolbert (Zelphia) Marcum of Canada, Ky., James Marcum of Danville, Bambi (Alvie) Spaulding of Verdunville, George Ann (Bruce) Mathis of North Carolina and Elizabeth (Chuck) Compton of Verdunville, 34 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday May 5, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lonnie Gore officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 P.M. Sunday May 4, 2008 at James Funeral Home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers: James Marcum, Donny Harvey, Justin Harvey, Tolbert Marcum, Reather Fields, Delbert Fields, Roger Dale Damron, Mark Thompson, Steve Thompson, Luke Marcum, Shane Spaulding, Travis Spaulding, Austin Fields, Donnie O'Shields and Ronnie O'Shields.
