Robert Lee Adkins Sr., 92, of Henlawson, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 19, 2015.
Born September 30, 1922, he was the son of the late Grover C. and Celia (Collins) Adkins of Henlawson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Della Jean White Adkins; his devoted second wife, Pauline Romans Adkins; eight brothers: Edmond, James, Virgil, John, Cecil, Charley, Gene, and Ray Adkins; and two sisters: Pearl and Ethel.
Robert was a retired carman with C& O Railroad with many years of faithful service. He was an active lifelong member of Trinity Freewill Baptist Church of Henlawson. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Those remaining to cherish his memory include three sons: Roy (Linda) Adkins of Victorville, California, Roger (Sharon) Adkins of Henlawson and Robert (Beverly) Adkins Jr. of Lenore; one daughter: Ellen Rose (Danny) Sheppard of Trace Creek; one sister: Vicie Walker of Ohio; step-children: Glennis (Delcie) Cremeans of Tennessee, Goldaline (Buddy) Casto and Anita (Billy) Casto, both of Harts, Edith Taylor, Zandell (Angie) Cremeans, Pamela Green of North Carolina, and Darlene Curry of Henlawson.
Robert was the grandfather of Roy (Dee) Adkins Jr., Joey Sheppard, Roger Adkins II, Della Renee (Eric) Sartin. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Cassie Adkins, Mattox and Lyrix Sartin, and Bryan Sheppard; great great-granddaughter, Jaycee Sheppard, along with a host of step-grandchildren; and a special friend, Carol Adkins of Henlawson.
A celebration of life will be conducted on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the James Funeral Home chapel in Logan with Rev. Donnie Wells officiating. Burial will take place at Morrisonâs Cemetery at Pigeon Roost. Robert will be carried to rest by his family and friends. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
