Patricia Ann Smith (nee Quillin), age 86, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, in York, South Carolina. Born on March 23, 1939, in Blair, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James and Virginia Quillin.
Pat’s life was defined by her steadfast faith and her deep devotion to her family and friends. A longtime member of the Church of Christ in Blair, she remained an active participant in her church community for as long as her health permitted. Whether she was working alongside her sister Linda or hosting neighbors, Pat had a gift for making people feel welcome. Her home was a place of open doors; nothing made her happier than a friend stopping by for a cup of coffee or a long afternoon of conversation in her gazebo.
She always had a kind word and a smile on her face, consistently placing the needs of others above her own. Pat was known for her generous spirit, particularly her love for crocheting dish rags, which she delighted in giving away to family and friends. She also cherished the simple joy of a meal shared with loved ones; she always looked forward to her dinners out with Melissa Butterfield and Retha Bella, who made sure she got to visit her favorite Mexican restaurant. Pat is now reunited with her high school sweetheart and husband of 60 years, Carlos Joe Smith, as well as her parents and her brother, Jim Quillin.
Her legacy of kindness lives on through: * Children: Terry J. Smith (Tina) of York, SC, and Kimberly Holstein (Virgil) of Cleveland, OH. * Grandchildren: Rachel (Dustin) Supan of Litchfield, OH, and Rebecca Smith of Monroe, North Carolina. * Great-Grandchildren: Easton and Remington (“Remi”) Supan, whom she loved dearly. * Siblings: Her adored sister, Linda Hutchinson of Godby Branch; brothers Jerry (Joyce) Quillin of Michigan and John Quillin of Bristol, VA. * Extended Family: Her sister-in-law and "sister at heart," Debbie Grimes of Hewitt, WV, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her so dearly.
The family wishes to extend a special mention to Freddie West, a very special friend of the family; lifelong friend and neighbor Herb Browning; and Jeannie and Jerry Dale Aleshire, who helped her in more ways than can be mentioned. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, March 4th, at Akers-James Funeral Home in Logan, with Johnny Steele officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
