Opal Epling Runyon, 78 of Chapmanville departed this life Friday September 16 at Logan Regional Medical Center.
She was born September 6, 1938 at Camp Creek, WV to the late Andrew D. Epling and Avoline Matherly Epling. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by: her husband, Grady Runyon; son Allan Douglas; and sister, Vergie Wood.
Mrs. Runyon was a member of Shining Light United Baptist Church and the Eastern Star Chapter of Coal City, WV. Opal was a former Driver Examiner for the WV State Police and was awarded Driver Examiner of the Year.
Those left to cherish her memory include: her son, Grady Runyon Jr.; daughters, Sandra Kaye Runyon, Faye (Ricky) Adkins, Andrea Duty, and Lelia Hicks; brother, Douglas (Kay) Epling; sisters, Mary (Bob) Maffia and Sandra Barber; brother-in-law, Harry Wood; grandchildren, Michael Runyon, Sherena Johnson, Blake Hicks, Benjamin Adkins, Paige Hicks, Alexandria, Joselyn, Jolene, Joshua, and Jasmine Runyon; 7 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday September 20 at Shining Light United Baptist in Chapmanville with Pastor Ricky Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Pallbearers will be: C.J. Hicks, Matthew Epling, Jack Chambers, Gary Epling, Ron Arthur, Robert Maffia, Chuck Long, and Dave Nelson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: P.D. Clemens, Timmy Epling, Glenn Ables, Bob McComas, Jeff Schoolcraft, Sam Pinion, Jack Grimes, and Brian Duffield.
Friends and family may call from 6 â 9 p.m. Monday September 19 also at the church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kathy Harvey and the Hospice staff, especially Angie Simpson and Brandi Davis for the special care of our mother.
