Mary Wilma McDonald Payne, “Aunt Wilma”, 93, of Logan, departed this life Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Logan Regional Medical Center. Born July 9, 1921 in Logan, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Mary (McNeely) McDonald. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Payne; four sisters; and four brothers. She was the last living member of her family. Wilma lived all her 93 years in Logan. She was a homemaker and wife to James, a coal miner. She raised twelve of her own children and was called “mother” by so many others. She loved unconditionally and was respected by all who knew her. Those left to cherish her memories are her children: Ruby (Jim) Irby of Lynchburg, Virginia, Jean (Randy) Mullins of Orlando, Florida, Joe (Linda) Payne of Spotsylvania, Virginia, Sue (Larry) Bevins of Logan, and Dianne Spears of Ruther Glen, Virginia; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; and a host of other dear family and friends. The family would like to thank Linda K. Vernatter, Sheila Chandler, and Beverly Faine for their love and care. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at the James Funeral Home Chapel in Aracoma with Rev. Johnny Faine officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Godby. Mary will be carried to rest by her family and friends. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 6-9 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Crooked Creek Church of Christ. Condolences may be left at www.jamesfh.com James Funeral Home of Aracoma is in charge of arrangements.
