Lorene B. Shell

Lorene B. Shell, 102, of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Logan, WV, passed away peacefully at her home on January 14, 2026. Born on July 7, 1923, at Mallory, West Virginia, Lorene was the eldest child of Claude Matthew and Golda Neace Booher. She was a 1941 graduate of Man High School and attended Bluefield State College.

Lorene embraced life fully and enthusiastically. In her younger years, she was an avid golfer, bridge player, dancer, and world traveler. She was a devoted supporter of the Marshall University Thundering Herd and the West Virginia University Mountaineers, and she remained proud of her roots as a longtime member of The Old Man High Alumni Association.

Lorene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bernard Shell, Jr.; her only son, Bernard (Barry) Shell, III; her brother, Regene Booher; and her sisters, Joann Isaacs and Sharon Smith. She is survived by her nieces, Vicki Greene of South Charleston, WV; Stephanie Currie of New Orleans, LA; and Valerie Southerland of Winston-Salem, NC, as well as a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

In accordance with Lorene’s wishes, there will be a private family gathering at a later date. Glick Family Funeral Home of Boca Raton, FL and Akers-James Funeral Home of Logan, WV is in charge of arrangements. She will be laid to rest with her husband and son at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, WV.
