Leonard Allen

Leonard Allen, 94 of Holden went to be with the Lord on November 27, 2022, at Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born September 3, 1928, in Holden, WV he was the son of Claude and Edna Johnson-Allen. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of many years, Ruth Stepson-Allen; his stepson, Charles Randall Turner of Lakeland, FL; and his siblings, Helen, Lucille, Bessie, Marie, Jimmy, and Jesse.

Leonard was an active member of the 7 & 8 Holden Freewill Baptist Church, where he led the choir and was a Sunday School teacher. He served in the US Army as military police and was a member of the UMWA. Leonard was a coal miner and retired as the first letter carrier in the small town of Mount Arlington, NJ. In his lifetime he was able to go to Jerusalem twice and was baptized in the Jordan River.

Surviving family members include, his sons, Leonard J. Allen of Athens, OH, John Patrick (Linda) Allen of Mount Arlington, NJ, and Claude A. (Bonnie) Allen of Holden, WV; grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Allen, Aralynn Allen, John Andrew (Jennifer) Allen of NJ, Tara, Charlie, Misty, and Lynn Turner of Lakeland, FL, Kacie Allen of Holden, WV, Michael (Janice) Allen of NC; Eva and Ean Allen of Crooked Creek, WV. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2022, at the 7&8 Holden FWB Church with Rev. Carson Fannin, Deacon Delbert Ball, and Pastor Mike Kimbler officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Chapmanville, WV. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022, also at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the 7&8 Holden FWB Church.
