Kizzie Catherine Adkins Dean 98 of McConnell passed away after a long illness with Alzheimer's disease on Thursday July 16, 2009 at Trinity Healthcare at Henlawson where she resided for 7 years and 4 months. She was born December 8, 1910 at Cove Gap, WV a daughter of the late Rayburn Adkins and Margaret Elizabeth Wiley McCoy Adkins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Aaron R. Dean. Also preceding her were her mother and father-in-law Rev. Joseph and Ruth Dean and her six brothers Hurston, Benjamin, Thomas and Earl McCoy and Joe and Hiram Adkins and one sister Ethel Adkins Neace. She was a postal employee for 17 years at Dehue and McConnell Post Offices. Kizzie was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of McConnell until her illness and she was a member for over 50 years. She was a Sunday School Teacher, a choir member and she arranged the flowers for the church every Sunday. She was past president of the Suburban Garden Club and she loved the flowers in her yard especially her lavender azaleas. Kizzie attended Morris Harvey Academy in Barboursvill until she relocated to Logan. She was a 1929 graduate of Logan High School. Survivors include two daughters Betty Burgess (Dick) and Jane Shepherd of McConnell. Three granddaughters Regina Al-Saigh and her husband Zack of Buffalo, New York, Rhonda Burgess of Lexington, Ky. and Andrea Shepherd of McConnell. She had one special niece Elzena Lucha of McConnell. Funeral services will be conducted Monday July 20, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Godby officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zack Al-Saigh, Guy Burgess, Richard Jimison and Dale Lucha. Visitation will be one prior to the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of McConnell or Nighbert Memorial United Methodist Church of Logan.
