Josephine Meade

Mrs. Josephine Maynard Meade, known to many simply as Jo. Jo was a kindergarten aid for 28 years at Earling Elementary, South Man Elementary, then Buffalo Elementary where she retired. She loved working with young children, and many will remember her for her artistic talent of drawing. Her handiwork could be seen inside the classrooms as décor and often used as the focal point of many classroom learning experiences. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading in her down time, the bible was her favorite book. Jo was a faithful member of Mt. Gay Freewill Baptist Church. On Saturday, January 11, 2020, sadly she joined her heavenly father while at home with her family in Logan, WV. Josephine was born August 27, 1931 to Lindsey and Victoria (Spry) Maynard in Monitor WV. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Olis Maynard, Bruce Maynard, Jimbo Maynard, and Lindsey Maynard Jr., and her sister Myrtle (Maynard) Williamson. Also preceding her, husband Elias Meade and infant child Alex Wayne Meade. Jo loved cooking for family and friends alike. Many will remember her breakfasts she loved to host on Sunday’s at her home. She is survived by three children Gartha Meade, Micheal (Lucille) Meade, and Kaye (John) Turley, three grandchildren Jodie (Cliff) Bain, Nicholas Meade, and Kayla (Wes) Robertson. Two special great granddaughters Marcie and Evie Robertson and two exceptional caregivers Gale Johnson and Melissa Marcum. Jo will also be very missed by her beloved dog Lacy. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Akers-James Funeral Home at Logan. Burial will follow in the Pack Cemetery at Atenville, WV. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service, Wednesday at the funeral home.
