Celebration of Life Joan R. Vance 76, of North Mitchell Heights, Logan, WV, was healed as she entered Heaven on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Logan Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family and friends as she went to her reward. Born June 14, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Ruford and Dolly (Stollings) Richards of Logan. She was born and raised at Henlawson, which is now known as Chief Logan State Park. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Ralph Richards and Donald (AnnaRuth) Richards and an infant brother Vernice Richards, and husband Paul Hurley. Joan was a member of Yuma Church of Christ since May, 2000, and a former employee of Sears and Staton’s (24 years). She was a very loving, warm, and kind person to all she met, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law and friend to many, including two special friends, Patty Kazee and Freda Evans. She will be cherished and remain in the hearts and lives of her children, Angie(James) Rice, Donald Hurley, Robin Spurlock, and Michelle (Bill) Perry, and wonderful grandmother to Channelle (Tate) Hartle, Chase (Alyssa) Rice, Taylor Hurley (Daniel Thomas), Luke Spurlock, and Joanie (Brandon) Adkins. Special “grandson”, Todd Ballard. She also left behind two great-grandsons that were a joy to her, Jax Hartle and Cayne Rice. Special pet “DJ”. Additional survivors are sisters, Agnes Dale, Imogene Hurley of Logan, WV and Joyce (James) Cyrus, Dayton, OH and Glennon (Jay) Lay of Gainesville, Florida,, along with many nieces and nephews. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Denny Collins and Cliff Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. also on Wednesday at James Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Pete Spurlock, Terry Ballard, Glen Adkins, Mike Farris, Todd Ballard and Larry Hubbard. Honorary Pallbearers include James Cyrus, Steve Richards, Doug Killen, Gary Evans and Tom Adkins. Her family would like to thank all their family and friends for their love and support during her sickness, as well as, a heartfelt thank you to Logan Regional Hospital, 5th floor nurses and staff and Dr. Kathy Harvey. In lieu of flowers, Joan’s wishes were for donations to be made to Yuma Church of Christ or Dignity Hospice.
