Jo Ann Baisden Scaggs, 79, of Mitchell Heights passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 at Logan Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Jo Ann will always be remembered for her positive attitude, loving heart, and cards she always sent for birthdays, get well wishes, in sympathy, and just thinking of you. She attended the First Baptist Church of Logan and has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Logan for almost 70 years. She participated actively in both churches. Jo Ann was the leader of the Prayer Shawl Ministry at the First Presbyterian Church and the Morning Circle. She was born December 1, 1938 to the late Dick and Peggy Baisden. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her sister, Sally Baisden Browning and her niece, Robin Browning Byrd. Jo Ann was a graduate of Logan High School and Marshall University where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She and her husband, Neal, were recognized by the Logan Area Marshall Athletic Club for their outstanding support of Marshall Athletics. Jo Ann will be remembered by many as their typing teacher at Logan High where she taught for almost 10 years. Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 60 years, Neal Scaggs; her son, Wyatt (Kristi) Scaggs; grandson, Neal Wyatt (Haley Donaldson) Scaggs III; and granddaughter, Katie (Rex) Delong. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church in Logan. At Jo Ann’s request there will be no visitation with services starting at 1pm. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Michael Hatfield of the First Baptist Church of Logan and the Rev. Kevin Geurink of the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill. Pallbearers will be: Scottie Ellis, Mark Hatcher, Tommy Keeney, Neal Scaggs, III, Jeremy White, and Michael Winter. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Vernon “Buddy” Ferrell, Doug McElwain, and Butch Nisbet. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Logan, 622 Stratton Street, Logan, WV, 25601 or to the First Baptist Church of Logan, 423 Main Street, Logan, WV 25601.
