James Anderson Workman

James Anderson Workman, 81 of Whitman, WV departed this life at Logan Regional Medical Center on August 2,2026. He was born November 4,1944 to the late Foster Workman and Nettie Workman Hall.

James was a devoted husband, father, coworker and friend. His family was the light of his life. He enjoyed Hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and friends, and serving our country in the United States Air Force for four years.

James was a retired Coal Miner where he worked underground for approximately 30 years. He retired in December 2011 from Delta Electric.

James was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Brady Workman of Florida; sister, Dolly Smith of Verdunville; sister, Loredith Weiss of Ohio, Goldie Bryant of Ohio, and Odessa (Pete) Paynter of Florida. His mother-in-law, Audrey Gartin of Whitman and father-in-law, Edward Wayne Gartin of Whitman and brother-in-law, John Wayne Gartin of Whitman.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Gartin Workman; one daughter, Denise Workman; and one son, James Dwayne Workman. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, coworkers and friends. He is also survived by his sister, Laura Crawford of Ohio; brother, Harold Workman of Ohio, Foster Workman of Verdunville and Tandy Workman of Florida.

James will always be forever loved and missed by all who loved him. His legacy will live on through his family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 7,2026 at #20 Whitman Community Church with Pastors Joaquin Ooten and Lonnie Gore officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Chapmanville. Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Thursday, August 6,2026 at the church.

Pallbearers will be Jody Gartin, Darrell Gartin, Scott Lukacs, Reinhardt Evans Tyler Browning and Brian Brumfield.
