Ivan Lee “Butch” Runyon, 77 passed away peacefully April 27, 2022, at his residence with his daughter Heather by his side.
He was born August 12, 1944, at Monaville, WV to the late George and Elizabeth Runyon. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Donny Runyon, Jim Runyon, and Toby Runyon.
Butch was a 1962 graduate of Logan High School. He was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1964 – 1966. Following his military service Butch then worked in the mining industry until his retirement. He was a member of the Monahill Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Rissie Runyon; 2 daughters who were his heart and soul, Victoria Georgette Runyon, and Heather (David) Woolsey of Monaville; his son, Dwain Runyon of Justice Addition; grandchildren, Tyler (Bethany) Woolsey of Mitchell Heights, Dylan Woolsey of Huntington, and Allie Woolsey of Charleston; 2 adopted grandchildren, Fred Ball Jr. and Jason Ball both of Beckley; 2 great-grandchildren, Elin Woolsey and Parker Cline. Butch also wanted to extend a special thank you to John Meade, John Wesly Nagy, Suzie, Wendy Hensley, Matthew Brown, Kierstin Privett, Dr. Waris, Carla and Greg Ramey, Fred Ball Jr, and all of American Power, especially, George Graham.
Butch was a supporter of the Special Olympics his entire life and asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to them.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Akers-James Funeral Home with services taking place at 7 p.m. Butch will be laid to rest with military rites in the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2022. A funeral procession to the cemetery will depart Akers-James Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Monday for anyone that would like to travel to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
