Harold Douglas McMillen, born on August 3, 1946, in Logan, WV, passed away on April 19, 2025, in Logan, WV.

A devoted family man, public servant and community leader, Harold’s life was marked by steadfast dedication to service both in uniform and in his hometown. Harold proudly served in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. When he returned home from the war, he became a City of Logan police officer and a member of the City of Logan Fire Department. He also continued his education by becoming part of the first graduating class of Criminal Justice from Southern West Virginia Community College. He continued furthering his education by attending and earning an additional degree from Bluefield State College. For 55 years, Harold served as a Little League umpire, becoming a familiar and respected presence on the field for generations of young athletes. Beyond the ballfield, Harold was deeply involved in civic and faith-based organizations. He was a longtime member of the Gideons and the Lions Club, where he contributed to charitable efforts and community outreach.

As an Elder at the Justice Christian Church, he offered spiritual support and leadership. His dedication extended to education as well – he served on the Logan County Board of Education, advocating for students and educators alike. Harold was also President of the board of the Logan Emergency Ambulance Service Authority, further demonstrating his commitment to public welfare and safety. His many roles reflected a life lived with purpose and integrity, but his most important roles were Daddy and Papaw. He valued his family most of all and enjoyed spending time with them whether it was on a road trip, at a ballgame, or just watching the Grand Ole Opry. He always made sure his family was provided for. He was enjoying sharing his love of baseball with Kenley and Fletcher, the true joys of his life.

Harold is survived by one son, Rev. Harold (Dee) McMillen Jr of Switzer, WV; one daughter, Krystal McMillen of Logan, WV; stepdaughter, Alisa Hensley; one granddaughter, Emily McMillen of Logan, WV; three grandsons, Harold “Trey” McMillen III of Switzer, WV; Brandyn Hensley and Cameron Hensley both of Logan, WV; two great-grandchildren: Kenley Fowler and Fletcher Fowler of Logan, WV; one brother, James (Sharon) McMillen of Godby Branch, WV, and one sister-in-law, Pat McMillen of Huntington, WV and a host of extended family.
