George M. “Mike” Watson, 78, of Logan, died Saturday, January 24, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington. Born January 18, 1948 in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Camilla and Walter H. Watson, Sr. of Logan, and the son-in-law of the late Madge and Tom T. Prince of Beckley.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Watson, Jr. of Huntington and Geoffrey Watson of Logan, and a sister, Patricia Watson of Logan. Mike is survived by his wife, Jane Prince Watson, and two children, son George Michael Watson II and wife Tracy of Hurricane and daughter Lee Watson Tomblin and husband Ted of Logan.
Additional survivors include a sister, Marsha Watson of Logan and two brothers, Robert Watson and wife Charlotte of El Dorado, AR, and Kevin Watson and wife Vickie of Fort Mill, SC. His five grandchildren include Olivia Tomblin Cude and TJ Tomblin, both of Logan, and Abigail Watson Hill (Caleb Hill), Michael J. Watson and Anna M. Watson (Ethan Young) all of Hurricane. Mikes great grandchildren are Luke, Caroline and Charlotte Cude, and Briar Tomblin, all of Logan, and Noah, Luke and Ella Hill, all of Hurricane. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mike was a graduate of Logan High School, Class of 1965, and Marshall University in 1969 with degrees in business and advertising. While at MU, he was a proud member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and the Thundering Herd basketball team for two years.
Mike was a crossword puzzle enthusiast, an avid reader, and a fan of high school, college, and professional athletics. He thoroughly enjoyed the years he was able to play golf, especially his Wednesday afternoon matches, as well as trail-riding and hunting at Lick Creek, and spending time with friends at the American Legion.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2026 at Akers-James Funeral Home with his son, George Watson II officiating. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of service Sunday at the funeral home.
