Evelyn Irene Adams, age 88, of Crooked Creek left this life on January 17, 2017 at Logan Regional Medical Center. She was born May 2, 1928 in Logan, WV. She was the daughter of the late James Henry Gleason and Marie Gleason. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Anderson Hulett Adams, son Gregory Anderson Adams, grandson Davian Adams, and daughter-in law, Sharon (Bailey) Adams. She was also preceded in death by two brothers Ralph and Alvin Gleason and one sister Betty Stapleton. She is survived by two sons, Tom Adams of Mill Creek and David (Ann) Adams of Rye, NH. Five grandchildren, Sean (Bridgett) Adams, Cole, Jaime, Logan and Hunter Adams. She is also survived by four great grandchildren and one sister Marguerite (Sissy) McDonald, one special friend Jackie Runyon, two special caregivers Pat Grubb and Melissa Pennington and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Special recognition must be given to Donna Miller, Evelynâs niece, and surrogate daughter who was her living angel. Donna handled all of the details of her everyday life, from doctorsâ appointments to medicine to ambulance driver. Donnaâs devotion was divine and beyond appreciated.
Evelyn was a longtime employee of the Logan County Board of Education having taught first at Avis Grade School and finishing her career as principal of West Logan Grade School. She was a graduate of Morris Harvey College and Marshall University. She was a member of the Crooked Creed Church of Christ where she served in many ways and especially loved teaching her Gleaners Sunday School class. Evelyn loved running and participated in distance runs and garnered many trophies. She has participated in the Aracoma Story, and been a member of Logan General Auxiliary where she was director of the Candy Striper program. She was also honored as a Logan County Teach of the year.
Visiting hours will be held at Akers-James Funeral Home, Aracoma from 6-9pm, Thursday January 19, 2017. A service will be held on Friday, January 20, 2017at 11 am at Crooked Creek Church of Christ, Crooked Creek WV. In lieu of flowers, do a random act of kindness and think of her.
