Ernest Lee âErnieâ Woods Jr., 46 of Logan went home to be with the Lord on Saturday June 29, 2019 in a tragic accident.
Ernie was born October 26, 1972 at Logan, WV to Ernest Lee and Regina Gail Woods. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alfred and Gertie Dingess; and paternal grandparents, Claude and Ethel Woods.
Ernie graduated from Logan High School in 1993 and enlisted in the US Army where he became a member of the elite 82nd Airborne Division. After leaving the Army he returned home and enlisted with the City of Logan Fire Department and the City of Logan Police Department where he served as a Firefighter and Police Officer for a total of 20 years combined. He was most recently employed with Blackhawk Mining. Ernie was a dedicated public servant who loved his community and was always willing to help in any situation. He served bravely and selflessly his whole life. Ernie loved to hunt, fish and kayak. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed shooting sports of all kinds. He was a hardworking provider who loved his life with his family and friends. He dearly loved his kids and was proud of all their accomplishments.
Ernie is survived by his parents Ernest Lee and Regina Gail Woods; daughters, Tiffany Callaway, McKenzie Baisden, and Madison Woods; sister, Teana (Larry) Chambers; nieces Hannah, Mia, and Alyssa; nephews Kameron, and Jase Chambers; special cousin, Kendall Dingess; his first expected granddaughter, Aubriella; fiancé, Amy Morrison; several aunts, uncles, and all of his First Responder Family.
A private ceremony for immediate family and Public Service Personnel will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday July 9, 2019 at the Word of Life Church with Pastor Josh Vanhook and Evangelist Charlie Abraham officiating.
Public visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday July 9, 2019 also at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations only be made to the City of Logan Fire Department to the attention of Chief Beckett.
