Emil Edward Tackett, 96, of Peach Creek, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born August 20, 1918 in Grayson, Kentucky, he was the son of the late John and Carrie Hall Tackett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 34 years, Virginia Newsome Tackett; his siblings: Lloyd, Reese, Haven, and Johnny Tackett, Irene Thompson, Edith Adkins, and Essie Tackett; his daughter, Dolores Lester; his grandson, Lester âJuniorâ Varney; and his son-in-law, Lester Varney.
Emil was a coal miner for 38 years. He spent his free time fishing and gardening but his greatest love was his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his second wife of 37 years, Delores White Tackett; siblings: Watt Tackett and Dora June Salina; daughters: Judi Varney of Maryland, Audrey Mae (Kenny) Gilliam of Virginia, Kathy (Marlon) Kasekamp of Maryland, and Diana (Bill) Lowe; son, Joseph âJoeyâ Tackett of Washington D.C.; and step-children: Diana (Dallas) Hunter and David Dilly; grandchildren: Melissa (Stan) Tabler, Michelle (Ray) Heaverline, Melinda Gilliam, Kim (Chris) Lusby, Scottie (Christina) Lester, Jennifer (Richard) Bistline, Martin (Brittany) Riley, Brian (Tiffany) Lowe, and Crystal Lowe; step-grandchildren: Matthew Hunter, Chad (Betty) Hunter, Chris, Stephen, Ryan, and Kate Dilly, and Sherry, Brian, and Ashleigh Kasekamp; twelve great-grandchildren, nine great step-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2015 at the West Logan Church of God with Rev. Joaquin Ooten officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens of Godby. Emil will be carried to rest by his friends and family. Friends may gather at the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015.
