Elzie J. Burgess, 74 of Stollings went home to be with the Lord Wednesday August 31 at Logan Regional Medical Center.
He was born January 22, 1942 in Chauncey, WV to the late Elzie A. Burgess and Roberta Lucas Burgess. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by four brothers: Homer Burgess, Ronald Burgess, Bruce Burgess, and Paul Burgess.
Mr. Burgess was a retired federal mine inspector supervisor and was the former Pastor of the First Christian Church of Stollings.
Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife of 49 years Glenna Kirkendoll Burgess; his daughter, Kimberly Ooten of McConnel; his daughter, Kathy (Richard) Cope of Westfield, IN; his son, Michael (Kristy) Burgess of Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren, Jacob Ooten, Michael Shane Burgess, Peyton Cope, Olivia Cope, and Layla Ooten. He also survived his very dear friends Lantz and Kristy Rankin and their children Jonathan and Andrea.
Funeral services will be held Friday September 2 at the First Christian Church of Stollings with Pastor John Fry officiating. Following the services Mr. Burgess is to be cremated.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services from 12 to 1.
