Elmer Huffman, 85, of North Mitchell Heights, Logan, WV entered into eternal rest Friday, March 27, 2015 at Charleston General Trauma Center after a brief illness surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Born December 17, 1929 in Leet, WV, Lincoln County he was the son of the late Delbert and Cuba Hatfield Huffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers: Charles, Phillip, Hubert, Eugene, and Carl; and one sister, Joann Huffman.
Elmer was a veteran of the US Army, awarded the rifle marksman medal, a retired underground miner with 22 yrs of service and a 60 year Dist 17 UMWA Union Member which he was proud to be a part of. Elmer was a previous Town Council member for the City of Mitchell Heights, previously Ordained Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent and was instrumental in organizing the Church Youth Group Van Ministry at McConnell Tabernacle. At the time of his death, he attended the Nighbert United Methodist Church of Logan. Elmer enjoyed his ministry of visiting the sick at the hospital and nursing home when he was able. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and bee keeping. Elmer was a member of the Corridor G Beekeepers Association.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 42 years, whom he dearly loved, Kathy Dillon Huffman; Children: Denny and Connie Huffman, Slick Rock Rd. Chapmanville, WV, Phyllis Spencer Phelps of Tampa, FL, Beverly S. Maynard of Murfreesboro, TN; brother, Jackie Huffman; Grandchildren: Edward (Eddy) Paul Maynard II, Denny (DJ) and Nanci Huffman, Kelly Huffman, Shawn Spencer and Mandy Spencer, Harold Adkins and Theresa Adkins; and brothers and sisters in Christ.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Beckette officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Monday at the James Funeral Home Chapel.
