Dorothy Mae Frye (maiden - Moore)
September 22, 1934 - October 27, 2025
Dorothy Mae Frye, 91, of Logan, West Virginia, departed this life peacefully for her heavenly home after an extended illness on October 27, 2025. Born on September 22, 1934, in Louisa, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Edith Marie York and Giles Howard Moore.
Dorothy grew up in Louisa before moving to Logan during high school, where fate introduced her to her high school sweetheart, Charles Frye. After graduating high school, the two married and headed off to Jacksonville, Florida while Charles served in the Navy, before eventually returning home to Logan to raise their three daughters. Trina, Tammy, and Terri, in Justice Addition.
Dorothy was a homemaker for many years and later worked as a bookkeeper for Sears and as an administrative assistant in her son-in-law’s medical practice. Organized, sharp, and always dependable, she could keep both numbers and people in line without ever raising her voice, though she could give the look when needed.
She loved her garden, sunny days, and being outdoors (rainy days were not on her list of favorites). Her heart was especially soft for cats. She cared for more of them than anyone could count, and each one was spoiled in its own way. Dorothy loved shopping trips, “pickin’ in the park,” and cooking up big family meals whenever the kids and grandkids came to visit. She never forgot a birthday, was an expert at bragging about her grandkids, and was a devoted mom, grandma, and “cat mother” to the very end.
She’ll be remembered for her independence, her love of biscotti and peppermint patties, and her steady, no-nonsense kindness that made everyone feel taken care of.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Frye; mother, Edith York Wright; father, Giles Howard Moore; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters Trina Chirico Evans of Somerset, KY, Tamra Thavaradhara (Pathom) of Harker Heights, TX, and Terri Frye (Darin Markus) of East Brunswick, NJ; grandchildren Frank Chirico (Kristein) of Huddy, KY, Joshua Chirico (Audra) of Chapmanville, WV, Justin Chirico of Chapmanville, WV, Ryan (Darshana) Thavaradhara of Buda, TX; Lorcan Markus of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Ciara Markus of East Brunswick, NJ, Keow (Mike) Essig of Fairfax, VA and Cookie Thavaradhara of Harker Heights, TX; great-grandchildren Natalie Chirico of Chapmanville, WV, Milani and Rossi Chirico of Huddy, KY, and Dougie, Ben and Jack Essig of Fairfax, VA.
