Dorothy Jean Borst, 90, of Zeeland, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 in Logan, West Virginia.
Dorothy was born on May 22, 1926 in Wayne, Illinois to Clayton and Gladys (Player) Smith. She received a Bachelor and Master of Music Education Degree from the University of Michigan. While a student, she attended the National Music Camp at Interlochen as a piano major. "Dottie" taught music for 27 years in the Zeeland Public School System. She also served a music ministry at Second Reformed Church in Zeeland as a choir member for 12 years and then as the Chancel Choir Director for 38 years. She was involved in many professional and community organizations including the Music Education Association, the University of Michigan Alumni Association and the Guild House and the Women's Literary Club in Zeeland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; and her three sisters; Lillian Carr, Charmione Trull and Mabel McAnnally.
Dottie is survived by her children; William Clayton Borst of Kingwood, Texas, Mary Elizabeth Borst of Logan, West Virginia, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Second Reformed Church, 225 East Central Ave., Zeeland MI 49464. A reception will follow the service. Rev. Karsten Voskuil will officiate.
Private interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery.
