Charles Vernon Bunch, 89 of Verdunville departed this life Monday, February 23, 2026, at his residence.
Born December 18, 1936, he was the son of the late Rosevelt and Dorothy Bunch. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Jean Bunch; sisters, Arlene Kitchen, Betty Collins, and Brenda Bunch; an infant brother, and son-in-law, Mark McNeely.
Vernon worked for the Island Creek Coal Company before opening and operating Bunch’s Exxon on Mud Fork for many years. He enjoyed golfing and fishing in his free time.
He is survived by his daughters, Teresa McNeely, Kathy Bryant (Robbie), and Donna Long (Chuck); his son, Charles Bunch; grandchildren, Jeana Smith (Ralph), Jonathan McNeely (Samantha), Makenzie Thompson (Seth), and Jenny Kirkpatrick (Robert); great-grandchildren, Emma, Nathan, Jerzee, Jaycee, Landrey, Parker, and Phillip.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2026, at Akers-James Funeral Home with Pastor Lonnie Gore Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service, Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan McNeely, Charles Bunch, Seth Thompson, Chuck Long, Robert Kirkpatrick, and Ralph Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Bryant, Nathan McNeely, Parker Thompson, and Phillip Smith.
