Billy Ray Cox Sr., 77 of Mt. Gay, WV departed this life Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at his residence.
He was born May 28, 1942 at Logan, WV to the late Samuel Jackson and Olive (Mullins) Cox. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Cox.
Billy loved working on old cars, drag racing, and Nascar. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, June (Jourdan) Cox; son, Billy Ray (Shirley) Cox Jr.; daughter, Paula (Keith) Adams; and sister, Barbara Jean (Bob) Mitchell. He was “Pappy†to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Pastor Josh Vanhook officiating. Entombment will follow the services.
Pallbearers will be Derek Adams, Keith Adams, Tommy Dotson, Corey Fleming, Robert Mitchell, Robert Fields, Michael Donnellan, Ike Kessecker, and Larry Ellis.
Visitation will be from 6 – 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Akers-James Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Billy’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association of WV, 1601 2nd Ave, Charleston, WV 25387.
