Billy Clyde Browning

Billy C. Browning, 81 of Verdunville, WV, went to be with the Lord on May 20, 2024, at Logan Regional Medical Center after a battle with lung cancer.  Billy was born on November 22, 1942, in Logan, WV, and was the third youngest of the twelve children of Johnny Browning and Elva Pettit Browning of Dempsey Branch, WV.  

He was on the force of the Logan County Sheriff's Department for 22 years until heart disease forced him to retire in 2002 with the rank of Lieutenant.  He was an avid sportsman, particularly loving to golf, fish, and hunt.  In his downtime, he enjoyed resting at home with his family, watching television, and doing crossword puzzles.  

He was preceded to the next life by his elder son, William J. Browning of Verdunville, WV, as well as by many of his siblings.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Allen Browning of Verdunville, WV; his younger son, Robert A. Browning of Verdunville, WV; William's wife, Kimberly Callaway Browning of Verdunville, WV; his two granddaughters, Tiffany Callaway of Logan, WV and Avari Workman of McConnell, WV; one great-granddaughter, Aubriella McComas; and countless other family, friends, and those whose lives he unforgettably touched.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 24, 2024, from 6 to 8 PM at Akers-James Funeral Home.  A small funeral service will be held at the Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 1 PM.
