Betty Ellis Chapman, born September 27, 1934, in Henlawson, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on September 7, 2025.
Born to the late Emert and Sarah Lou Ellis, Betty grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold “Red” Chapman; her sisters Mary Hatcher, Ernestine Stultz, Ailine Spurlock, Mamie Lou Blevins, Lena Lovette, and Linda Cook; and her brothers Joe Ellis, Billy Ellis, Pete Ellis, Jimmy Ellis, Scott Ellis, and Charles Morris Ellis.
She is survived by her devoted sister, Delano “Bay” Hudy, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will cherish her memory.
After marrying, Betty moved to Satellite Beach, Florida, where she became a long-standing member of the Melbourne Church of Christ. Betty worked for Pan Am, where she served as the Head of Human Resources, which later became Johnson Controls, in their space division at Patrick Space Force Base. She was very proud to contribute to our country’s space program. Beyond her professional life, she was known for her faith, her warmth, and her care for others.
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her.
Betty will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens on Friday, September 19th. Viewing will be held at the cemetery mausoleum at noon, followed by a service at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Yuma Church of Christ in Logan, West Virginia.
