Audrey Gartin 82 of Whitman entered the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, following a lingering illness. She died peacefully at Logan Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born September 10, 1928 at Slagle, WV. She was the daughter of George and Susie Childres. Also preceding her in death was her loving husband, Edward Wayne Gartin, infant son John Wayne Gartin, sisters Opal Campbell and Beatrice Jones, brothers Thomas Childers, Jack Childers and Wiley Hatfield. Audrey was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of 20 Whitman Community Church and retired from the Logan County Board of Education where she was a cook at Monaville Grade School. She enjoyed life and spending time with her family and friends. Those left behind to cherish her memory are 2 sons Darrel (vera) Gartin and Jody (Joella) Gartin of Whitman, 3 daughters Phyllis (James) Workman, Patricia Gartin Evans (Anzie Brewer) of Whitman and Sue (Lewis) McCrory of Ohio. 11 grandchildren Audra (Tim) Saunders of WPB, Florida, Denise Workman, Dwayne Workman, Pfc Cody (Jodi) Evans currently serving our country in Afghanistan, Chadd Gartin, Megan Gartin, Ethan Gartin all of Whitman, Beth McCrory, Lewis McCrory, Michael McCrory, Jeffrey McCrory all of Ohio, Brittany, Timothy and Alyssa Saunders of Florida. 11 great grandchildren. A very special sister in Christ Mabel Young, her beloved "Monaville Gang" and a host of nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday August 20, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at 20 Whitman Community Church with Rev. Joaquine Ooten officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Friday August 19, 2011 from 6-9 P.M. at 20 Whitman Community Church. The church will be open 2 hours prior to the service for visitation. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Rao and staff, also the wonderful nurses and staff at Logan Regional Medical Center, especially Leslie and Pablite.
