Alvin Ray Farmer, 81 of Logan departed this life Wednesday September 7 at Trinity Healthcare Services of Logan. He was born May 30, 1935 in Henlawson, WV to the late Albert M. Farmer and Genoah Farris Farmer. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by: his four brothers, Clifford Farmer, Theodore Farmer, Theron Farmer, and Frank Farmer; one sister, Lois McGinnis; his daughter Sonya Alisa Crum; and one son, Michael Alvin Farmer. Alvin was a member of the Central United Baptist Church since 1995 where he was a Trustee and late became an Honorary Trustee. He also belonged to the Men’s Fellowship. Alvin was a retired coal miner of 37 years and a member of the UMWA. Alvin loved reading his Bible and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. His favorite Bible verse which he would often recite or have his grandson’s Noah & Jeremiah quote was, John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have ever lasting life.” Those left to cherish his memory include: his loving wife of 23 years, Lois Ann Farmer, his God given Angel on earth; one brother, Glen Farmer of Connersville, IN; one sister, Mildred Adkins (Larry King) of West Milton, OH; sister-in-law, Hester Farmer of Kemper, KY; four children, Alisia (Jesse) Spry of Danville, WV, Kristi McNeely of Sneads Ferry, NC, Jeff (Jaime) McNeely of Henlawson, WV, Marty (Wendy) Welch of Sneads Ferry, NC; 13 grandchildren, Cody Queen of Morgantown, WV, David (Pandra) Farmer of Logan, WV, Mark (Angie) Farmer of Chapmanville, WV, Eric Farmer of Logan, WV, Lisa (Steven) Midkiff of Harts, WV, Karen Farmer (Justin Lambert) of Barboursville, WV, Michaela Hendricks (David Weese) of Beckley, WV, Sarah Farmer of Chapmanville, WV, Brooklyn Welch of Sneads Ferry, NC, Noah McNeely of Sneads Ferry, NC, Callie Jo McNeely of Henlawson, WV, Jeremiah McNeely of Sneads Ferry, NC, Breanna Welch of Sneads Ferry, NC; 6 great-grandchildren, Corbin & Luke Farmer, Chelsea & Isaiah Farmer, and Levi & Braelyn Midkiff. He is also survived by a host of friends, extended family, nieces, nephews, and his buddy, his dog Baxter. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday September 10 at the Central United Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Skeens, Pastor Rick Adkins, and Larry Brammer officiating. Following the services Mr. Farmer is to be cremated. Visitation will be from 6 – 9 p.m. Friday September 9 also at the church.
