Ernest J. Martin Jr. entered into rest on October 23
2019. Ernest was born June 8th, 1935, the son of the late Ernest and
Vergie Harvell Martin. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and
beloved wife, Sarah Martin and daughter in law Laura Tracy Baisden.
Ernest graduated from Sophia High School and then attended college at
Morris Harvey where he obtained a degree in education in English and
Social Studies. He also had additional training at Marshall University,
College of Graduate Studies and completed his Master’s degree in
counseling from West Virginia University.His career began as
a Rehabilitation Counselor, then, a Mental Health Counselor and finally
he retired from teaching/counseling after working many years at Logan
Ernest enjoyed reading, learning and woodworking. For years he loved
to work in his shop and give projects away as gifts.
Ernest made the good confession on May 11, 2015, and he and his
wife were baptized at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in
Logan W.Va., where he was a member until the time of his death.
Those who loved him will always remember his kindness and generous
spirit. Those left to cherish his memory, are his son, Ernest J. Martin III.
Also left to remember Ernest are her sisters in law: Rosemary Matthews,
Julia & Kirt Gothard, and Alice Jane Hainor. His brother and his wife,
Virgil and Carol Martin, also survive Ernest, as do his nephews and their
families: Lee, Jessica, Ashleigh, Ryleigh, and Garrett Martin, and
Kenneth & Krystal Martin.
A host of special friends and extended family also cherish Ernest,
including: Joe and Sara Baisden, Chad and Libby Jo Salyers, Meloney
E. & Greg McRoberts, Naomi Ward, Harold Ward, and numerous
Ernest is also survived by his adopted grandchildren: Drew Petroff, and
Mason, Chelcee and Ashlee McRoberts.
Honorary pall bearers are: Lee Martin, Kenneth Martin, Joshua
Bumgarner, Chad Salyers, Mason McRoberts and Jacob Robinson.
Service and interment at Forest Lawn Mausoleum will be held at
Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 2:00pm with the Reverend Tom Chafin of
the First Christian Church of Logan, presiding. Immediately following
that, a celebration of Ernest's life will be held at First Christian Church,
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Ernest's honor be
made to: First Christian Church We Can Program, which provides a
portion of Backpack Buddies, a charity helping provide weekend food
for school children of the area. Honorariums can be mailed to: First
