Obituary

A beloved teacher, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend, Donald E. Hunt, 69 of Crooked Creek, W.V. went to his heavenly home on Sunday, October 18, 2020.

He was born February 11, 1951 in Mare Creek, Kentucky, son of Moses & Vernice “Mildred” Hunt.

He was preceded in death by his parents Moses & Mildred Hunt, Paternal Grandparents Pim & Jennie Hunt, Maternal Grandparents Lee Walter & Virgie Harmon, and several aunts and uncles.

Donald was a Logan High graduate, class of 1969. He attended Marshall University and graduated in 1978 with a master’s in education. He spent 36 years teaching at Earling Grade, Logan Central, and Logan Middle School. He retired in 2006 but continued substitute teaching. He was compassionate about teaching and enjoyed all his students over the years. His other love was spending time with his family and nephew/nieces Elleck, Lydia, Aubree, & Bentlee in which his smile lit up the room when spending time and playing with them.

Left to Cherish his memory are his brother Arthur (Alice) Hunt of Crooked Creek; nephew Greg (Ranelle) Hunt of Crooked Creek, nephew Tommy (Sherri) Hunt of Crooked Creek, niece Rachel (Derrick) Workman of Logan; great niece Sasha (Ron) Neece of Crooked Creek, great nephew Marty (Haileah) Miller of Chapmanville, great nephew Josh (Autumn) Hunt of Kermit; nieces and nephews Elleck Hunt, Lydia Workman, Bentlee Neece, Aubree Neece, Mandy Miller, Jacob Miller, and several cousins who he loved so dearly. He also leaves behind his special cousin Shirley Browning who he cherished like a sister. During his illness he had wonderful caregivers, Glenna & Cordelia, who he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Akers-James Funeral Home with Martin Miller Sr. officiating. Entombment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Mr Hunt was also my 9th grade teacher at Central. I had no idea he was sick. I hadn’t seen him for some time. He was one of my favorite teachers and he had left a lifelong impression on me. Sorry for your loss. He was a great teacher and a wonderful person.

Mr. Hunt was my 9th grade History teacher at Logan Central. I always enjoyed him as a teacher. He was kind and compassionate guy. I always enjoyed listening to him laugh, especially when he got really tickled. That belly laugh of his would carry all over the third floor. I am very sad to hear of his passing. Praying for his family.
