Obituary

Columbus Johnson Jr., 79, of Mudfork, WV, departed his life peacefully after struggling with multiple health issues on May 14, 2020, at his home of twenty-seven years.

Columbus was born on January 10, 1941, the son of the late Columbus Johnson Sr. and Celia Ann Kinser from Mudfork, WV. Preceding him in death are his brothers Robert S Johnson and Danny Ray Johnson; sisters, Nellie Tomblin, Liza Harbor, Mary Francis Aldrige, and Carol Farmer; daughter Patricia “Peanut” Johnson; son in law Elva Ray Runyon; and great-granddaughter Addalynn Nicole Johnson.

Those around to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty-one years Shelia Roberts-Johnson of Mudfork, WV, and brother Ballard Johnson of Verdunville, WV. Columbus was a loving father to his three sons and four daughters Edward (Vicki) Johnson of Avis Akers, WV; Richard (Teresa) Johnson of Clinton, NC; Robert Johnson of Logan, WV; Terri (Timothy) Carter of McConnell, WV; Melissa Runyon of Verdunville, WV; Jamie (Josh) Wilson of Dingess, WV; Amy (Chris) Justice of Mount Gay, WV; and grandson he raised as his son Edward “Lee” (Amanda) Johnson of Verdunville, WV.
Columbus was a grandfather to eight other grandchildren: Jeanette Johnson, Jennifer Bodden, Richard Johnson Jr., Holly Carter, Joey Carter, Ryan Johnson, Leah Reeves, and Mackenzie Jefferson.
Columbus was a great-grandfather to eleven great-grandchildren: Adrian Orona, Ayden Orona, Benson Bodden, Brendon Bodden, Austin Johnson, Addasin Johnson, Asher Johnson, Eugene Johnson, Rylee Johnson, Juliet Reeves, and Desmond Reeves.
Columbus also had many nieces, nephews, and other family members he held close to his heart.

Columbus worked hard to provide for his family at Paul Cook Ford for several years and at National Cable Repair under TK Killen for thirty years as a mechanic. He had several good friends through the years, including Raymond Williamson as one of them. Colombus loved his family and friends dearly. He made sure everyone always had a smile on their face and enjoyed sharing laughs. He was an incredibly strong man emotionally and physically through all his battles in life. Columbus was finally able to let go of his presence on earth and moved on to a better place.

The family would like to say a special thank you to all the staff of hospitals, EMS/STAT, DaVita Dialysis, and Hospice that helped Columbus on his journey; and a special mention of Dr.Rhada and Dr.Faridi for their dedication as Columbus’ doctors.

Honoring his wishes his remains are to be cremated. A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
