Obituary

Brenda Lucille Austin Baisden, 73, of Yuma, passed away on Saturday, May 9th, 2020 in her home surrounded by her three loving girls and family.

She was born on September 6th, 1946 in Ethel, WV. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Bertha Austin, also from Ethel WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Charles D. Baisden, who is in heaven waiting on her with open arms since May 25th, 2011. Her only son, Charles D. Baisden II, who passed away on August 7th, 2007, is also awaiting her arrival to the kingdom of heaven. Brenda and Charles were married for 49 years and 6 months. In their loving marriage, they had three beautiful daughters and one amazing son.

In Brenda's past time, she loved watching her son play ball, and her daughters cheer. You would find her every evening and weekend watching every precious moment. Later, in years, she enjoyed watching her grandkids play ball and would be their biggest cheerleader.

Brenda's most prized job was the raising of her children and watching her grandsons play ball. She also enjoyed sewing and making curtains, tablecloths, and other special items.

After her first two children began Jr. High, she began driving a school bus for Logan County. During this time, she adopted many kids on her Mill Creek route who she would keep in touch with until she was injured causing her to retire. She was then blessed with a 3rd daughter she raised and enjoyed.

In 1987, Brenda suffered a brain aneurysm which many people don't survive from. She became the biggest fighter ever, defeating the odds and surviving for many wonderful years.

Those who knew and cherished her knew her as Thelma Harper or Sophia from the golden girls. Brenda was her mother, Bertha Austin, made over which included her mother’s personality and looks, all the way down to her fingernails.

Brenda was a member of the New Day Family Worship Center in Monaville, WV, and was also involved in the lady’s group, Women of Purpose.

Anyone who knew Brenda knew she was a loving person and had a giving heart. She would give anything to someone in need. You could always find her sitting around the kitchen table enjoying a hot cup of coffee and sharing memories with everyone who would sit with her.

Brenda is survived by her daughter and caregiver Kim Mendez (David McKight) of Yuma Camp, Logan WV, Stephanie Davis and Husband Gene Bevins also of Yuma Camp, Logan WV, Catherine Jenna' Ellis and Husband Bryson Ellis of Chapmanville, WV, one Granddaughter, Kayli Baisden of Pecks Mill, WV, Four Grandsons, Richard Lee Mendez of Bristol, VA, Charles D. Baisden III of Harts, WV, and Bryson Douglas and Zachary Aiden Ellis of Chapmanville, WV. One Brother, Don Austin and Wife Gaye of Ottawa, WV, and one sister, Marcy Cook, and Husband Ronnie also if Ottawa, WV. 2 brother and sister-in-laws, Jerry and Donna Baisden of Chapmanville, WV, David and Sheila Baisden of Crooked Creek, WV, Barbara Meade of Logan, WV, Josephine Hightower of Milton, WV, and Liz Moore of Ormond Beach Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She had many dear friends, Rusty and Diane Acord, April Marcum, Rick, and Ruth Sheppard, and Pastor Jeremy and Becky Tomblin, and the ladies from the Women of Purpose church group.

The visitation will be Thursday, May 14th, 2020 from 6-9 pm at Akers-James Funeral Home in West Logan. Services will also be at Akers-James Funeral Home on Friday, May 15th at 1 pm. Entombment will follow at Highland Memory Garden after the services.

I remember when we were young, we loved to go to my Aunt Brenda’s house and stay. We always had a blast with Steph, Kim, and Charlie. She always treated us like one of her own. She will be missed dearly.

Love
