Obituary

On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, Barbara Ellen Wellman, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 87 years. Known to her friends as Ellen, she will be forever remembered by her daughters, Rhonda DePasquale and Pamela Hurst, who filled her life with boundless love and support in her later years.

She was born January 29, 1932 in Mingo County, WV to the late Carter and Georgia (Williamson) Wilson.

Ellen was preceded in death by: her husband and best friend, Jayce, and her loving son, Steve and grandsons, Jared, Jordan, and Jacob Wellman.

Ellen spent most of her life in Logan, WV, however she moved to Charleston 20 years ago to be closer to her family. She loved caring for children, spending time with friends and sitting on her front porch to greet anyone who passed by. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren: Nicholas, Taylor, Alex and Jayna Hurst; JC and Josh Wellman; and AnnMarie DePasquale.

We will always carry your memory in our hearts.

A Celebration of Ellen’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday February 23, 2019 at Akers-James Funeral Home at Logan with Rev. Barney Goins officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday February 22, 2019 also at the funeral home.

Rhonda and Pam, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I have so many memories of her smile and laughter, whether it was your home, and Gidget greeted with her bark, or at the hotel before dance class. Love, hugs, and prayers for both of you.
